Matthew McConaughey’s Greenlights
The book I have recently read is a memoir as I took a penchant for them while reading a lot about World Wars and similar occurrences that have affected lives in depth and reformed them in a way that such memoirs have come about, giving a deeper meaning to people’s lives, their struggles and their successes.
Here I talk about the famous artist and actor Matthew McConaughey’s memoir titled Greenlights. Published on October 20, 2020, it breathes out the candidly told story of a 50-year-old who has kept a diary for his life’s thirty-five years as a way of moving forward and getting ahead even with tons of riddles in tow while negotiating with them. All of it makes you privy to his childhood, life, ambitions, successes, and setbacks in a brutally honest, unexpected and paced-up way.
What intrigued me in choosing this book is what an actor whose life has already been out in the open and well-celebrated would have to write about other than the backstage drama and philosophical speeches spread all over YouTube. Brought up in Texas and among the Hollywood fame, he has unbelievable stories that sound motivational in his distinguishable voice. Refreshingly (yes), it is an escape from the sham entertainment industry is prone to turn to many a time.
His acting career including the iconic “Dazed and Confused” role he was discovered for and the wild ride it has been ever since he worked out a job at the jazz club, all is entailed as a storyteller would take us along through his trip to success. Auditions, however, are not talked of. The family life, the parents described is quite endearing too. There are pieces of wisdom shared and you find bumper stickers and prescriptions within giving advice. It makes for a quick, breathy read that trended over the last Christmas we had.
One might think of the “greenlights” as the word is in the plural form to be understood as the greenlight that gives a “go” and is inevitable after “the red” and “the yellow”. The coolness of good hopes found on the complete journey of life he has thoroughly loved is what he sees as his greens. The readers too will watch his movies in a different light after having enjoyed his way and approach seen and felt while dancing out his style as the greenlights have played their magic for him in the changing seasons.
