Books for Beginners: Find a Story That Fits Your Life

Begin with curiosity, not a reading target.

Your first book does not need to be a classic, a prizewinner, or the title everyone is discussing. Think about the films, conversations and subjects that hold your attention. A mystery, a love story or a family novel can all be a good place to start.

Make the first few pages your guide.

Read a description, look at the format, and notice how the writing feels. Prefer short reading sessions? Set aside ten minutes and keep the book somewhere easy to reach. A manageable routine matters more than an ambitious number of pages.

Keep a small, flexible TBR.

Save two or three books that sound appealing. If one is not working for you, try another without treating it as a failure. Reading is a personal experience, and your tastes will become clearer with every book.
